About
Welcome to De Astra, Ad Astra — or simply De Astra for short.
Here, we’ll attempt to answer some common questions about the site.
What is this blog about?
Technically speaking, our primary objective is to popularize and promote understanding of the scientific method, explain basic concepts, and report on interesting science news. Having said that, our interests are diverse. Expect to see everything from an in-depth explanation of hydrostatic equilibrium to a movie review or even a personal rant.
What does the title mean, anyway?
The title is Latin for “From the stars, to the stars.” It is meant to imply a deep interconnectedness between humans and the universe around them, since the elements in our bodies were forged in the cores of long dead stars. Through science, perhaps we will one day return.
Quidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur…
That isn’t a question, but yes, we know :).
What’s with the tagline?
The tagline is a quote by Carl Sagan from his book and subsequent TV mini-series, Cosmos.
